In English classes in Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh students are encouraged to develop their skills in writing, reading, presenting and composition. We explore great literature- past and present- and delve into discussion to develop each student's unique worldview. Through a combination of individual and collaborative tasks, students learn to think and speak for themselves as they engage with a wide variety of texts- from novels and films to poems, plays, songs and stories. Students take a central role in honing their talents and emerge accomplished authors, poets, essayists, directors, debaters, critics and public speakers.

Examples of Senior Cycle Texts Include: Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Room, 1984, The Great Gatsby, Some Like It Hot, Casablanca, Brooklyn, A Doll's House, Philadelphia Here I Come!, a wide variety of studied poets and more!
The Transition Year English course includes: Composition and story writing, studying poetry and poetic techniques, studying songs and lyricism, film studies and filmmaking, acting and drama studies, an in-depth look at Irish writers, presentations and projects, improving vocabulary, reading and writing skills and learning to harness our creativity.
